Hello everyone,

My Tarantino ancestors settled in New Orleans in the late 1800s. I have no idea where they were from, but I'm beginning to think they were from Ustica.

There are several Tarantino families in New Orleans in the late 1800s. My ancestors were Nicolo Tarantino and Rosa Manfre. They had several children in New Orleans between 1867 and 1878. My Great Grandmother was their daughter Catherine (Katie) Tarantino.

On the Ustica Genealogy Homepage, I found Salvatore Tarantino (b. 15-DEC-1886 Ustica, d. 02-MAY-1948 San Francisco County, CA) married a New Orleans girl, Maria Tranchina. His younger brother Anthony P. Tarantino (b. 25-JAN-1893 Ustica, d. 18-SEP-1956 San Francisco County, CA) married 26-JUL-1916 Jefferson Parish, LA Rosa M Gallo, also a New Orleans girl. Eventuall y, this extended family settled in San Francisco. This is pure speculation, but I wonder if this is the same family involved in the San Francisco Bay Area food and produce business.

Incidentally, besides my ancestors Nicolo Tarantino and Rosa Mafre, both the Tranchina and Gallo families also married members of a Manfre family -- all in New Orleans.

This is a lot of circumstantial evidence wit h no hard links. But I'm hoping someone out there can add a piece to the puzzle.

Thanks, everyone.
