Virginia Mancuso Wood on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at the age of 95. She was a long-time resident of Kenner, and later, Metairie. Virginia was preceded in death by William B. "Bill" Wood. Virginia and Bill devoted much of their life to the Shriners organization in New Orleans. When Bill was Potentate of Jerusalem Temple, they attended numerous conventions throughout the United States in support of Shriners Hospital for Children. Virginia enjoyed wearing stylish formal gowns in ballroom competitions. New York was her favorite destination because of her love of Broadway plays. Her quick wit brightened everyone's day. She was known for her loving kindness, especially to those neighbors in need. Mother of Donald and Glenn Wood. Mother-in-law to Debra Hirsch Wood. Long-time companion of Walter Reed. Sister of the late William Mancuso, Lucy Stinnette and Rose Jeunesse. Daughter of the late Pascal Mancuso and Mary Gennaro. Also survived by twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous loving nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery), on Monday, July 17, 2009, at 4:00 PM. Family visitation begins at 2:00 PM and friends may visit at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shriners Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
