CSBA members and friends,

I'm excited to announce that the CSBA will be having a private showing of the documentary film "Ustica The Diamond Years", produced by Stefano and Mathia Coco. Back in 2015, CSBA participated in a crowd-funding which successfully raised 5,000 euros for the production of the movie. The documentary was completed this year and CSBA received its complimentary DVD this summer. Those of you who frequent our facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/groups/231005923014/) are well aware of Stefano's posts as the movie gains momentum and appears in film festivals across Italy. He is deservedly proud of his accomplishment. Sweeping views of the island combined with the phenomenon of baseball mania that overtook the island for nearly 40 years make for a very inspiring experience. And, of course, New Orleans plays into all of this because we hosted the men's team here in 1983, and the Jefferson Parish Recreational Department team made a reciprocal trip to Ustica. Those who have been to the island will know some familiar faces - Vito Ailara, Franco Lauricella to name a few - and at the very least, everyone will enjoy seeing and hearing our common surnames used in the context of daily life in Ustica. The film is in Italian with English subtitles.
What: Ustica Gli Anni del Diamante
  When: Saturday, November 11, 2017
2 - 5pm (film will start promptly at 3pm and last 88 minutes)

Where: John Curtis Christian High School gymnasium (see MAP)
10125 Jefferson Hwy, River Ridge, La

The gym is actually on the cross street, Manguno Drive. If that name sounds familiar, it's no coincidence. Merle Manguno Curtis, the granddaughter of Giuseppe Mangano and Rosa Barraco of Ustica, is the wife of the late John T Curtis, the school's founder and namesake; and the grandmother of CSBA Board member, Rob Eutsler III. We are very grateful for the use of the facility and equally proud of the family's connection to Ustica.

CSBA is working on possible future movie dates in the area. For out-of-town members, we can arrange to have the DVD mailed for viewing with family and friends. Please let me know if you are interested and we'll get the ball rolling. You can also view the free trailer or pay to view the film online at https://vimeo.com/ondemand/usticagliannideldiamante. If you are interested in attending the showing on November 11th, please send us an email. We want to get a head count, so we can make sure we have appropriate seating. CSBA will provide soft drinks and light snacks.

Hope to see many of you there. It truly is a great film and one you'll enjoy watching in the company of friends and family.
