The New Orleans Public Library - Online Obituary Index An indispensable time saver when planning a trip to the NOPL to look up obituaries or when connecting to online sources for obituaries.
Jefferson Parish Public Library - Genealogical Materials A great resource for planning New Orleans and South Louisiana genealogical research.   They now house the Italian-American collection formerly held at the AICC.   Click on the Reference tab and then the Genealogy tab.
Archdiocese of New Orleans - Archives Department Information on obtaining sacramental records of the Catholic Church throughout the New Orleans region.   Some of these early records are online at this site.
Latter Day Saints Family Search - Catalog Search Look up microfilm availability by place or surname.  Many Sicilian records (including Lampedusa and Ustica!) are available online from this site, particularly from 1866-1910. Click on the "Help" icon below to view an instructional tutorial.
GenealogyBank A pay service but well worth it if you want to search actual newspapers from around the US or for access to the US Social Security Death Index (SSDI).   New Orleans newspapers are well represented.

Actual Obituaries 1989 to Current
You must have a Louisiana Library card to enter.   Choose Newsbank and The Times Picayune.   For best results, search for surname by Lead/First Paragraph   Content varies by local library participation.
ROOTSWEB California Death Index California Department of Vital Statistics death records from 1940 - 1997
Louisiana Vital records Search for Louisiana death records (1804-1957) and Orleans birth (1810-1907) and marriage (1870-1957) records.   Deaths and marriages older than 50 years and births older than 100 years can be ordered.
National Archives of Italy Actual images of birth, marriage and death records across Iatly.   Coverage is incomplete.   Many records are indexed for easy search by name.   Great for researching Usticesi in Naples.
USGENWEB Orleans Parish, LA - Times Picayune Obit Index Invaluable for finding actual death dates when the SSDI lists only month/year.   Complete from 1972 to current.
USGENWEB Orleans Parish, LA - Birth Index Index from 1790 through 1904.
USGENWEB Orleans Parish, LA - Death Index Index from 1804 through 1918.
USGENWEB Orleans Parish, LA - Marriage Index This index starts in earnest about 1870. It is completed through 1914.
French National Archives - Overseas Territories Images of actual documents from the French colonies (1830-1904).   Only Algerie in North Africa is available but this is a very significant region for Usticesi families that emigrated from the island.   Entirely in French.
GENDEX - Genealogical Research Site Simple and elegant!   It contains a huge database in a very easy to use format.   You can also download free software from the Links page that converts a geneaology file in GED format (a common export from most geneaology software) into web pages.
