Needless to say, the city of Palermo is huge and the civil registration records voluminous. This page may help you to navigate through the mountain of data. Palermo was divided into 23 sections, which each recorded their own civil registration records. (See map below for those which I have been able to locate.) Rarely did our great-grandparents mention the actual neighborhood they were from, so searching for records can be long and costly.
| Fortunately at some point near the turn of the century, all of the records from each section were compiled into an index volume. This is a tremendous aid to research because only a single typeset source needs to be reviewed in order to trace your family. The index contains all pertinent genealogic information, however, the actual records are also available for each section of the city. Listed below are the microfilms for the Index to the city of Palermo.
