And yes the island is tiny. Here in purple is the island overlain to scale on a map of New Orleans. If you're not familiar with New Orleans, that's the Mississippi river winding its way across the bottom and this rectangular grid with the star in the center is the French Quarter. The island is only a mile and half at its smallest diameter and two and three quarter miles along its longest diameter. Its small size is a very important part of the story.
