Family History Centers

Information on Ustica  - Lipari  - Palermo  - Naples

Family History Centers are genealogic libraries run by the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, better known as Mormons. The Momrons have been microfilming records of genealogic value worldwide for about 60 years. Their holdings are available to anyone by placing an order at your local center for the appropriate films at a minimal fee. The films are then copied from the central facility at Salt Lake City and sent to your local center, where they can be viewed on microfilm readers. Contact your local Latter Day Saints temple for the location of your nearest Family History Center or visit Family History - How Do I Begin?.

The Stato Civile are civil records of birth, marriage and death initiated during the Napoleanic rule of Southern Italy. These records are outstanding in that they contain consistent information concerning ages, occupations and nativity of participants in the events. Most are recorded on neat typeset pages with the pertinent details filled in by hand. The records for Ustica start in 1820 and end in 1902, with the years, 1856, 1857, 1861, 1866, 1892 and 1900 missing. Birth records are missing for 1902. The records are grouped by record type and date, and most have indexes following each year for easy reference. Click here to see an actual death record.

Please be aware that there are Ustica church registers that span the gap from the latest permanent inhabitation in 1762 through the beginning of the Stato Civile in 1820.  These are not available on microfilm and can only be accessed by correspondence or actually visiting the church in Ustica.

I will also include here the microfilm numbers for the Lipari church registers.  These records are likely to be the most easily available source for extending your Usticesi family lines back further in time because most early inhabitanats of Ustica emigrated from Lipari in the 1760's.
