TAYLOR Rosaria (Ria) Lorraine Giardina Taylor, age 83, beloved wife of the late Robert Henry Taylor, died peacefully at home in the presence of family on the morning of Wednesday, October 5, 2011. She was born in New Orleans on January 5, 1928 and was a longtime member of Algiers United Methodist and later St. Bernard United Methodist churches. She was the loving mother of and beloved by her children Steven Roy Taylor and his wife Darlene F. Taylor, Bryan William Taylor and his wife Elia O. Taylor, Lorraine Beth Taylor Torres and her husband Richard A. Torres, Laurette Gay Taylor Smith and Roberta Xavia Taylor. She was preceded in death by her mother, Xavia Josephine Gioffritto Giardina and her father Salvador Giardina and by her brothers Leo Giardina, Francis Giardina, and Salvador "Joe" Giardina, Jr. as well as by her sister Xavia Giardina Schriber. In addition to her children she leaves behind nine loving grandchildren: Chad Steven Taylor and his wife Allyson C. Taylor, Joshua Alan Smith, Amy Beth Taylor Renz and her husband Frederick L. Renz III, Rebecca Mary Smith, Jessica Lorraine Taylor, Joel Richard Torres, Jill Priscilla Taylor and her partner Tiffany E. Pasco, Brian Paul Torres, Victoria Esmerelda Taylor and three beautiful great-grandchildren, Sebastian Oliver Renz, Addyson Mariana Taylor and Kohen Alek-zander Taylor. She also leaves behind many other members of the extended Taylor and Giardina families.

GIARDINA Janie Giardina, age 93, born on July 13, 1918 in Dover, AK, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2011. Wife of the late Joseph J. Giardina. Mother of John H. Brooks. Stepmother of Beverly Renaudin and the late Jay F. Giardina. She leaves behind numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. Janie was loved by her devoted friends Jessie Bourgeois, John and Betty Fogerty. Her nephew, Ralph Giardina, saw to her needs in her late years. Janie was a very gentle, caring soul and loved by everyone who knew her. She will be sadly missed. A lifelong resident of Metairie, LA. GIARDINA Vincent Giardina, a Veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Ruth Black Giardina. Loving father of Jacqueline Giardina Dauphin (Dennis) and Vincent J. Giardina (Donna). Son of the late Conchetta DiVincenti and Ignatius Giardina. Brother of Rose, Frank, Antoinette, Lucy and Anthony Giardina. Proud grandfather of Amy Giardina Haley (Mark), Michael Giardina, Daryl Dauphin (Heather), Daniel Dauphin and Marianne Dauphin. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Vincent was a native of New Orleans and enjoyed a long career with Zuppardo's Economical Super Market. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and brother, who loved his country and treasured his family. GRECO Vincent J. "Chuckie" Greco passed away May 27, 2011 at the age of 77. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Barbara Nunez Greco; his children Angela and Arthur Cilluffa, Vincent Jr. and Gwen Greco, Gina Greco, Anthony Greco, Donna Greco Jackson, Francis and Stacey Greco; his grandchildren Arthur Jr and Christopher Cilluffa, Nicole and Valerie Greco, Samantha, Mia and Anthony Greco II, Thomas Jackson, Chad, Amelie and Connor Greco. Vincent is predeceased by his parents Anthony and Conchetina Greco and his siblings Francis Greco, Carmelita Greco Hingle and Rose Greco. MANCUSO Ronald Albert Mancuso, Sr. passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the age of 83. He was a native of New Orleans and a long time resident of Metairie. Upon graduation from Jesuit High School in 1945, he proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy. As an employee of both Westinghouse Electrical Supply and Federal Pacific Electrical Supply, Ron held the position of District Sales Manager. Survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lucille Arruebarrena Mancuso, he was also the loving father of Dr. Ron Mancuso, Jr. (Lee), Debbie Madere (Jerry), Michael Mancuso, Sr. (Denise), Melinda Smith (Keith) and Mark Mancuso (Kathy). PALMISANO Grace Lutz Pitfield Palmisano departed this life at home with her family on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Charles S. Palmisano. Loving mother of Charlene Marsiglia (Victor) and the late Charles Gerard Palmisano. Grace was born in New Orleans, LA to the late Mr. and Mrs. Howard L. Pitfield, Jr. (Louise). In 1954 she and her family moved to "River Ridge". Her siblings were the late Howard III, Oliver, Melvin, Lionel, Louise, Robert and Patricia. She was, and loved being, a homemaker but worked as a head cook at St. Matthew the Apostle School for about 12 years in the 1960's. She also worked for a short time at Kress, in 1948, and Capitol Jewelry in 1973. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many loving nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. BARRACO Phyllis Joan Mayhall Barraco, 71, gently passed on April 21, 2011 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Her final days were spent peacefully, surrounded by her family. A pillar of strength, she loved life and especially enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She was a treasure hunter, and some of her favorite pastimes were garage sales and encouraging the tiniest of seedlings and flora to thrive with her notorious green thumb and nurturing spirit. Abundantly creative, she was a multi-talented artist and served as illustrator for the book Past Masters, a story of Destrehan Plantation, where she was manager of the gift shop for many years. She loved to sing and dance and belonged to The Oldies But Goodies Dance Club. A native of Good Hope and long time resident of Destrehan, she was the second born of four children, and preceded in death by her parents Carney Allen "C.A." Mayhall, Jr. and Mamie A. Louviere Mayhall, her brother Robert A. Mayhall and niece Armande E. Richoux. Beloved wife of 53 years to Peter R. Barraco, Sr. and devoted mother of one daughter and son-in-law: Patricia J. and Barry Bourgeois. Five sons and two daughters-in-law: Peter R., Jr., Phillip M. and Dawn Rulapaugh, Preston M. and Paul C., Patrick and Allison Hebert. Adored grandmother of seven grandchildren and their spouses: Phillip M. "Mikie" Jr., and Jennifer Mire. Courtney Bourgeois and husband Chris Plauché, Amber L. RUSSO Joseph S. Russo passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the age of 79 years. Survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jean Gardner Russo. As a devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by two sons: Dr. Michael Russo (wife Kathy) and Louis Philip Russo (wife Michelle); five grandchildren: namely, Joey and Kellie Russo, Joseph P., Dominic and Andrew Russo, and many loving nieces and nephews. GIARDINA Thelma Blasini Giardina passed from this life to her eternal reward on Thursday, March 17, 2011. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Michel Ernest Giardina; her brothers: Sylvester, Charles and Albert Blasini, and her sister, Norma Blasini Larriviere. Devoted mother of Michel Ernest Giardina, Jr. (Cheryl), and Dr. Ronald Joseph Giardina, Sr. (Carol). Survived by her seven grandchildren: Michele, Tonja, and Justin Giardina and Jamie Giardina Daniels (Richard), also Mary, Ronald Jr. and Michael Giardina (Lynsey); and great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Thomas, Tiana, Pralinh, Kristian, Nia, and Jonathan. She is also survived by her sister, Marie B. Jezewski. Thelma was born in New Orleans, LA on November 17, 1914, was a life-long resident of the city and attended Saint Joseph Academy. She was a member of the Saint Lucy Society and attended St. Maria Goretti Church. She possessed a deep faith and love for God and family. She was a kind, loving, generous Christian woman who treasured her family. Thelma traveled extensively, and was a member of several clubs. She enjoyed a long healthy life, was fun loving, energetic and an inspiration to all. Thelma is dearly loved and will remain in our hearts always. PALMISANO Julie F. Palmisano, age 73, passed away on Saturday, March 05, 2011 at Ormond Nursing and Care Center. She was a retired Data Entry Clerk with Reliance Insurance after 18 years. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Joseph J. Palmisano, Sr.; five children: Vicki P. Centanni (Tony), Joseph J. Palmisano, Jr. (Mary), Kevin P. Palmisano, Gina Achord (Scott) and Tammy Westbrook (Ray); two brothers: Eddie and Willie Macloud; two sisters: Gloria Fox and Emily Miguez; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert Thomas Macloud and Emilie Mary Guidroz; three brothers: Robert T. Macloud, Jr., Irby Macloud and Gary Macloud; and two sisters: Norma Hinyup and Barbara Godail; and a very special nephew, Freddie Palmisano.

MANCUSO Hilda Lina Spahr Mancuso, of Holiday Island, formerly of Metairie, Louisiana, was called home by her Lord on February 19, 2011. Hilda was born May 19, 1914 in the village of Hohen Solms, Louisiana, to Karl and Georgiana (Wadenpfuhl) Spahr. Although her very early years were spent on Germania plantation in Ascension Parish, she lived most of her life in New Orleans. Hilda was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Holiday Island and was a former long-time member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Metairie. She was a baptized child of God and trusted in her Savior's promises. She spent the last years of her life living at Green Acre Lodge Assisted Living Facility, Holiday Island. Her family expresses their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Perla Talebi and her wonderful staff at Green Acre for the loving care they gave Hilda. They also thank Eureka Springs Hospital Hospice, and especially Everett Fountain, for their compassionate care during the last days of Hilda's life. She is survived by her two sons, Herman K. & wife Brenda Mancuso of Metairie, Louisiana; Thomas G. & wife Dianna Mancuso of Eureka Springs, AR; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. On August 24, 1935 she was united in marriage with Herman Peter Mancuso who preceded her in death in 1994. She is also preceded by her parents, brother, George B. Spahr, sister, Myrtle Spahr Gray, daughter-in-law, Lorene Davis Mancuso, and her great-grandson, Morgan Migliore. No local services are planned. Hilda's remains will rest in the Spahr family tomb in her beloved New Orleans. Rev. Ken Haydon of Grace Lutheran Church, Holiday Island, will conduct the interment service.

PALMISANO Mardee "Zia" Patricia Palmisano, age 33, went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, February 10, 2011. Beloved daughter of Estelle Troxclair Palmisano and Wayne Palmisano. Sister of Nicolas Palmisano (wife, Caritas). Aunt of Isabella and Luca Palmisano. Granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Carrington and the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Troxclair and Mr. and Mrs. John Palmisano, Sr. Mardee was a positive energy like a ray of sunshine bringing joy and hope to others despite her circumstances and limitations. Because of her incredible faith in the Lord and the consolation she received as a result of that faith, she devoted herself to others and especially her niece and nephew, whom she cherished. Besides sharing her love in the Lord, she loved reading her Bible, scrapbooking and creating cards. She will be forever missed by those who were blessed to know her! SEGRETO Linda Ann Segreto, born November 27, 1940, passed away on November 28, 2010. Daughter of the late Louis and Lena Smith of New Orleans, she is survived by her sons John and Mark Segreto, sister Karen Smith and daughter-in-law Victoria Segreto. Linda was a New Orleans native who loved spending time with family and friends. She worked at Brennan's Printing and Direct Mail, volunteered every Sunday at the WWII D-Day Museum in New Orleans and walked in Lafreniere Park every day after work with her friends. MUMPHREY Carolynn Ann Mumphrey, 73, a resident of Sun City for the past two years and formerly of New Orleans, LA, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at the Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. She was born November 18, 1937, in New Orleans to the late Ignatius and Mildred (nee Eagan) Catanzaro. Mrs. Mumphrey married Charles J. Mumphrey on July 6, 1956, in New Orleans. Mrs. Mumphrey was very active at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, where she was an adoration and office volunteer. She was also a member of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and the St. Francis Xavier Cabrini and Marian prayer groups in New Orleans. She also volunteered at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, reading, sewing, and playing the piano. In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Charlynn (Dale) Hawkins of Lake in the Hills, Charlee Mumphrey of Greensboro, NC, and Chalon (Michelle) Mumphrey of Le Sueur, MN; grandchildren, Shane Patrick Hawkins and Faith Ann Mumphrey; sister, Sunny Schulz of Mandeville, LA; and nephew, William Schulz, Jr. of Mandeville. A lifelong native of Lutcher, Louisiana, Valfred was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Amato, his mother, Enola Landry Amato, his step-mother, Isabelle Rodrigue Amato, his brother, P. J. Amato, and his sister Ada Mae Guidry. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Valfred is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Betty, his children and grandchildren: Valerie Amato and Peggy Jane and Joshua; Craig and Dora Amato and Victoria and Donovan; Michele and Paul Gates and Marshall and Valyne; Lisa and Carl Gulino and Dominic and Carley; Joseph and Sandra Amato and Lindsay and Joseph; and Carolyne and Clint LeBlanc and Luke; and by his sister, Rosalie Heltz. A successful businessman, Valfred was the founder and owner of Amato's Refrigeration, which has served the citizens of Lutcher and the surrounding area for 40 years, and is now proudly maintained and operated by his sons. In addition to his dedication to his business, Valfred was also a tireless community servant, serving on the board of directors of the St. James Bank, as a 3rd and 4th degree Knight of Columbus, as past-president of the Lions Club, as past-president of the LPG Hunting Club, and as mayor of Lutcher from 1974-1978. However, above all of his other accomplishments, Valfred valued most highly the deep and abiding relationships that he nurtured with both his family and friends throughout his life. To his family, he was a pillar of strength, a tireless provider, and an unfailing source of love and encouragement. To his friends, he was a one-of-a-kind companion, a strong shoulder, and an ever-present source of aid in times of need. The life of Valfred Amato was a life marked by strength, passion, generosity, and great love, and it was these qualities that touched the lives of all who knew him, and that will provide a lasting legacy to a great man. AMATO P.J. AMATO Lutcher Fire Chief P.J. Amato, Fire Chief for the Town of Lutcher, LA and former Mayor Pro-Tem, died Friday, August 24, 2007 of complications from his battle with cancer. He was 74. Beloved husband of Carol Poche Amato for the past 45 years. P.J. proudly served in the Lutcher Fire Department for the past 54 years, 43 of those years as Fire Chief. He was answering the call up until his death. In addition to his service to the fire department, he also served as President of the St. James Firemen's Association since its inception. A native of Lutcher, P.J. served as Mayor-Pro Tem for the Town of Lutcher, succeeding his father, Joe on the Town Council. A Korean War Army Veteran and member of the VFW Post 5852, he held many positions within the VFW, the most recent, leading the Veterans in the Honor Guard for fallen comrades. A retiree of Kaiser Aluminum, Gramercy Plant after 41 years, P.J. filled his retirement years by doting on his 9 grandchildren and helping the numerous benefit dinners that went to special causes in the local community, especially the St. Joseph's Altar. Dedicated to physical fitness, P. J. could always be seen around town on his bicycle. As his 5 children grew up, it was common to see P.J. involved in their numerous activities. From Boy Scouts to Little League Baseball to Lutcher QB Club to St. Peter Chanel School, the list was long. A Parishioner with St. Joseph's Church, P.J. was faithful to the Lord, serving as a Lector and in the Choir for many years. P.J. was preceded in death by his infant twin daughters; parents, Joseph and Enola Landry Amato; and his stepmother, Isabelle Amato. Survivors include: his wife, Carol Poche Amato; four sons and daughters-in law: Jason and Nancy Ordoyne Amato, Jared and Patti Poirrier Amato, Walt and Rachael Lambert Amato and John and Angela Montgomery Amato; one son-in-law and daughter, Michael and Paula Amato Poche; and nine grandchildren: Randi, Madisen, Coy, Shea, Rayni, Cameron, Sara, Alexandra, and Elisabeth. BARRACO Phyllis Joan Mayhall Barraco, 71, gently passed on April 21, 2011 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Her final days were spent peacefully, surrounded by her family. A pillar of strength, she loved life and especially enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She was a treasure hunter, and some of her favorite pastimes were garage sales and encouraging the tiniest of seedlings and flora to thrive with her notorious green thumb and nurturing spirit. Abundantly creative, she was a multi-talented artist and served as illustrator for the book Past Masters, a story of Destrehan Plantation, where she was manager of the gift shop for many years. She loved to sing and dance and belonged to The Oldies But Goodies Dance Club. A native of Good Hope and long time resident of Destrehan, she was the second born of four children, and preceded in death by her parents Carney Allen "C.A." Mayhall, Jr. and Mamie A. Louviere Mayhall, her brother Robert A. Mayhall and niece Armande E. Richoux. Beloved wife of 53 years to Peter R. Barraco, Sr. and devoted mother of one daughter and son-in-law: Patricia J. and Barry Bourgeois. She was active in the Music Club for over 20 years, serving as President in 1995 and 1996. She and Joe were members of the original St. Genevieve Catholic Church congregation in 1959 and she continued to serve the parish for many years as lay reader, eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, and vistor to the elderly and shut-ins. Her many years of community service were recognized in 1994 when she was named a Volunteer Activist by MacDonell United Methodist Children's Service.
