The rest of this presentation is grouped chronologically by time periods. This first period documents the earliest settlers to come to New Orleans. These records will show the early onset of immigration to New Orleans, the interaction among the immigrants, cultural assimilation in the form of surname changes and inter-ethnic marriages, continued interaction with the homeland and the difficulties in gathering statistics from this time period. Record keeping from New Orleans in general is poor during this time. There are few births documented and marriage and death records are lacking in detail. So let's begin looking at some documents.
